A Swedish Massage is the most common massage people get. The goal of this massage is to relax the entire body. I do this by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of the blood returning to the heart. I use kneading, long strokes, deep circular movements, and passive joint movements. This is meant to relax you, stimulate nerve endings, and increase blood flow and lymph drainage. This is why afterward you should drink water. I'll even bring you a cup of water afterward to encourage this.
After your Swedish massage you should spend the day relaxing and enjoying the after-effects of the massage. Lots of fluids, preferably water, to help encourage the draining of the lymphatic system.
